Announcing the 2024 DCWF Cooperative Incubator!

Apply to participate in DCWF’s 5-week co-op-focused course!

FREE | Mondays June 3, 10, 17, 24, & July 1 6-9pm

This course will cover the basics of governance & decision-making models, co-op principles, member buy-in & finances for co-ops, creating operating agreements & bylaws, and more through hands-on activities, Q&As with guest speakers working in local cooperatives, and presentations. Participants will leave with concrete tools for building a cooperative structure that works for their unique team.

Participation requirements:

  • Your business is EITHER operational or in the pilot phase, OR you have completed a Build Institute, ProsperUS, or equivalent business course in the past 2 years

(Participants who have completed a build institute course this year will be reimbursed their BUILD course fee by DCWF!)

  • You have a team of at least 3 committed members with industry experience

  • At least two of your team members are able to attend all five sessions of the program

PLEASE NOTE:

Our priority for this program will go to majority Black and/or indigenous & Arab/MENA groups made up of people raised in Detroit and who have lived here for 10+ years-- particularly those whose projects have a specific intent to support their neighborhood or community in some way. While these are not requirements, groups who do not fit that description will be included in the program as capacity allows.

“Being able to start my own business has been a goal of mine once I removed the fear of not having a 9 to 5 but I didn’t know how I was going to reach that goal. Detroit Community Wealth Fund’s co-op academy has allowed me to not only start a business, but find business partners that can help assist with the shared responsibility that comes with being a worker-owner”.
